Geisel Mentorship and Advising Program

Advancing the teacher-scholar model for medicine.

Medical school and the transition to residency has become more complex. Geisel is evolving its curriculum to enhance integration across all four years of study: decreasing the duration of pre-clinical curriculum while increasing our clinical curriculum, and increasing the individualized student experience in the post-clerkship curriculum. While Geisel has significantly increased all aspects of diversity of our classes and has seen class size grow slightly, we have not expanded our corresponding advising and mentoring systems. Working as a founding member of the seven medical schools in the Kern Foundation-funded MedEdNext, we are developing a comprehensive student mentoring system. It will provide longitudinal coaching and mentoring for our students across all four years, thus supporting and enhancing the close faculty-student interactions that make Geisel unique.
